What Is 2C-B?

Woman rests head on arms as she ponders her friend's 2C-B addiction

2C-B is often used at parties, but it is important to remember that it can be very dangerous. While it may produce a feeling of euphoria in the moment, it has a number of negative effects on both physical and mental health. While the effects are usually short-term, it is possible to have long-lasting psychological issues after using 2C-B. The long-term effects of 2C-B are not fully understood yet.

If you or a loved one has been using this substance, it is important to seek help. At The Canyon, our outpatient substance abuse treatment can help you find the support and resources necessary. We can help you take control of your life and move forward in a positive direction. Contact us at 424.465.5182 today to learn about our treatment options.

What Is 2C-B?

2C-B, also known as 4-bromo-2,5-dimethoxyphenethylamine, is a synthetic drug that falls under the category of phenethylamine, a class of substances known for their psychoactive effects. The drug was initially used for psychotherapeutic purposes but has since gained popularity as a recreational substance.

This psychedelic compound can produce varying effects depending on the dose. Low to moderate doses can lead to:

  • Enhanced colors and sounds
  • Euphoria
  • Increased sociability

Higher doses, however, can induce:

  • Intense hallucinations
  • Altered consciousness
  • Panic or anxiety

The effects of 2C-B are usually felt within 45 minutes after consumption and can last for up to 8 hours. The drug is commonly taken orally in powder or pill form.

The Dangers of 2C-B

It can trigger underlying psychological issues and can cause users to become disconnected from reality for a period of time. There has been some indication that use of this drug can lead to psychological issues, including depression, anxiety, and even psychosis.

Users of 2C-B can also experience several other symptoms, including:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Difficulty focusing
  • Headaches

It is important to note that 2C-B has been linked to strokes and even death in extreme cases. To reduce the risks associated with this substance, it is essential to refrain from taking too high of a dose or using it without medical supervision.

Nicknames for 2C-B

This synthetic psychedelic substance is known by several street names, including:

  • Pink cocaine
  • Tucibi
  • Nexus
  • Venus

It is important to note that despite these nicknames, 2C-B is not related to cocaine chemically or in terms of its effects.

Do I Need Substance Abuse Treatment?

If you or someone you know is using 2C-B or other drugs and finding it difficult to stop despite negative consequences, it may be time to seek professional help. Indications that substance abuse treatment may be necessary include neglecting responsibilities at work or home, experiencing withdrawal symptoms when not using the drug, requiring more of the drug to achieve the desired effect, and unsuccessful attempts to quit or reduce usage.
